In Memoriam, Rose Kelman

Rose and Herb Kelman

We are saddened to share with you news of the passing of Rose Kelman. She passed away peacefully on April 15, 2020 at the age of 94. She is survived by her beloved husband, Herbert Kelman of Cambridge MA; her nephew Michael Stern, of Chicago, Il; her nieces Deborah McCants and Ruth Ticktin, and eleven grandnieces and nephews. Rose was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of Arthur and Belle Brousman. She received her undergraduate degree from The University of Chicago and received her MSW from Howard University. Working as a social worker in Baltimore, Rose met and married her lifelong partner, Herbert C. Kelman.

Rose was an indispensable partner in all of Herbert Kelman’s work throughout the years. She played a central role in all of their conflict resolution efforts in the US and abroad – taking detailed notes of workshop discussions, making logistical arrangements, attending to participants’ needs, and contributing more than anyone else to creating a secure and supportive environment for everyone. She will be dearly missed by all of us.
